After a video exposed a flaw in Bard AI, a company-developed artificial intelligence (AI) platform, Alphabet’s shares, which are owned by Google, plunged. The business ran a Bard AI advertising campaign on YouTube on February 9th, but a mistake in one of the AI replies concerning the James Webb telescope was quickly discovered and scrutinized by several users.

What Exactly Happened with Bard AI?

In a nutshell, Bard AI claimed that the new telescope being built by NASA would have produced the first photograph of a planet outside of our solar system, but in reality, exoplanet photos had already been shot in 2004.

The Bard AI‘s blunder was captured on tape, which was swiftly removed. Alphabet’s share price dropped by more than 8% as a result of the market’s lack of forbearance. The entire company’s market worth decreased by nearly $100 billion as a result. According to InfiniteMarketCap, Big Tech’s market cap was $1.2 trillion as of the time of publication. The parent firm of Google is far behind its greatest AI competitor, Microsoft with a $2.02 trillion market cap.

AI Seems to be the New Talk of the Market

Both the financial markets and social media appear to be abuzz with talk of artificial intelligence. Recently, Bill Gates complimented the technology, saying that it has a greater potential to alter society than the blockchain and the metaverse.

Even in the cryptocurrency market, euphoria has caused tokens tied to AI to skyrocket in value. This is particularly true given ChatGPT‘s year-long success. The platform garnered 100 million users in only two months. Microsoft recently disclosed a US$ 10 billion investment in OpenAI, the chatbot’s creator.

Because of the hurry to enter this market that was sparked by that action, Google may have felt pressure to release Bard AI before the platform was ready for release. A corporate representative told The Verge that this blunder shows how crucial it is to test the new AI more thoroughly.

And as of this week, Chinese search engine Baidu revealed that it is working on its own artificial intelligence in addition to Google. Which corporation will dominate this new market is still up for debate.
